Our Story
JIMY was born out of a desire to make the gym work for us, not the other way around. Health, fitness and wellness have become much more popular in recent years for a whole host of reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic, which has changed the way we work, commute, travel, and exercise, among all other aspects of our lives. Because of the changes brought on by the pandemic, we’ve seen thousands of people build home gyms out of necessity, but many have also continued to use them, even as commercial gyms have opened back up!
Our team saw this as an opportunity to not just build a business, but to help people looking to build a home gym make it work for them. Building a home gym is difficult, even for seasoned gym-goers, let alone those of us who are beginners to fitness! There are so many options when it comes to the equipment you can buy that it can be overwhelming, which is why we developed our unique approach to buying gym equipment, using intelligence and data to provide you with tailored and exact recommendations. At JIMY, we understand that in order to live a sustainable healthy lifestyle, it needs to work for you. This has never been so apparent as it is now, when flexible working and living means that so many of us are looking closely at the way we live, and what our priorities are. Technology has changed the way we do almost everything in today’s world, and with a strong background in tech ourselves, the JIMY team decided to take our model to another level, utilising data, algorithms and AI in order to carve out a space where customers can come to understand more about what it is they need from their home gym, and how to build it themselves.
As well as selling high-quality gym equipment, we want to help you make the right choices when it comes to buying fitness equipment for your home gym. Using intelligent data and our unique survey, we’re able to offer you bespoke recommendations on the equipment for your home fitness space, based on your goals, the size and dimensions of the space you have available, your lifestyle and the way you want to work out, among a range of other factors. With this survey data, we’ll be able to recommend you the right equipment for your home gym and help you to create a space that helps you enjoy working out, rather than just doing it because you have to!
What Makes Our Products Different?
At JIMY, we really do believe in the products we sell, and for us that means creating products that are UK made, using quality British steel and with excellent craftsmanship. We’re exceptionally proud about the quality of our products and want to make sure that all of the products we sell are well-made, to give you the best start with your new home gym equipment.
It’s so important to ensure that the fitness equipment you use is of good quality, as it can have a big impact on your fitness journey in the long run. Cheaper alternatives are more likely to break and wear down quickly, meaning you’ll have to spend money replacing them more often. With quality metal like ours, you can feel confident you’re making a worthwhile investment in your fitness journey. Quality equipment is also really important when it comes to the safety of your home gym, particularly when it comes to lifting heavier weights and/or working out on your own. Good quality weights will be accurately measured and well balanced, which can prevent injuries and accidents, keeping you safe when you’re using your home gym.
Why We’re Passionate About Home Gyms
As our lifestyles have changed, we believe that our health and fitness routines should change too, to make them easy and sustainable to follow, and actively enjoyable to do! Home gyms are the perfect answer to today’s more flexible way of living and working for many different reasons, and we’re always talking about the benefits that they can have.
Making fitness more accessible
While the barriers to entry for home gym setups can be high, after the initial cost and effort, a home gym setup is the most affordable and accessible way to put together a fitness routine and regime that is actually sustainable. When they first start (or re-start) their fitness journey, many people make big changes to their daily routines which can be really difficult to stick to over time. A home gym provides you with more flexibility in how you work out, as you can work out in the mornings before work without the need to go out or to commute, at lunch or on small breaks, straight after the workday, late at night when commercial gyms might be closed, around shift work or unsocial hours, without needing to arrange childcare or work around family time, without needing to remember a gym back when you go out for the day or without making additional stops on your commute to or from the office. With more of us working at home than ever before, home gyms are also a much more flexible way of working out for lots of us – the accessibility of home workout equipment allows you to take advantage of working out whenever is convenient, and can give you a break from working at a PC for hours on end! Essentially, a home gym works for you, which is exactly what the team at JIMY believe it should do.
Better for the environment
The world is becoming more eco-conscious, and many of us are looking for ways to reduce our personal and household carbon footprint, which includes cutting down on travel. Home gyms, for obvious reasons, don’t require a commute or journey, whether that’s by car or on public transport, making it a choice that is not only better for you, but better for the environment too!
Making fitness a group event
While you might think a home gym is less social than a commercial gym, that’s not necessarily true. While home gyms are great for people who want to work out alone, they also can act as a social space at home. Whether you want to work out comfortably and privately with friends, with a partner, or even to introduce your kids to the world of fitness in a safe and healthy environment, a home gym can be a space to do this!
Home gyms are more hygienic
With more people than ever being conscious of their health and hygiene, it’s clear to see that commercial gyms aren’t always the most hygienic of places! The sheer amount of footfall in commercial gyms, as well as the amount of wear and tear use that machines and weights get every day makes it incredibly difficult to feel confident in the cleanliness of your equipment. Even with increased cleaning procedures, many people feel more comfortable in a home gym environment, where they can control who uses the machines and can ensure that all the equipment is cleaned properly after use.
There are so many different ways that home gyms can have a positive impact on our lives, which is why we’re so passionate about making the process of building your home gym as simple as possible.
